Meet the Data Science Summit

The origins of Data Science Summit date back to 2014, when the first Data Science Warsaw community meetup was held. It was the popularity of these periodic meetups that contributed to the decision to organize the first edition of the conference, and its success to subsequent ones. Today, DSS is the largest community in Poland centered around the Data Science area.

Events organized under the initiative

The main edition of Data Science Summit is the largest independent data science conference in the CEE region. The topics of the event are very broad and cover the entire *data* area: from ML / AI, through analysis and processing (including Big Data), implementation issues to visualization (BI) and management topics. It brings together 2,500+ people from the community every year. A companion event is the industry Data Science Expo, where you can meet product and service providers, as well as current recruiting employers.

Event organizer

Since 2005, we have been supporting the Polish IT / data science community in its development. We are not only the organizer, but also the initiator of many significant events aimed at professionals and students in the industry, such as Warsaw IT Days, Data Science Summit, The Hack Summit, Ya!vaConf, MS Tech Summit, IT Job Fair and many meetups. We also help organize IT and data science conferences for companies / organizations interested in such activities.

Data Science Warsaw is the largest data science community in Poland, based in Warsaw. We are a non-profit organization working on the exchange of ideas and knowledge about data science, data engineering and so-called artificial intelligence. Our goal is to discuss tools, technology and business opportunities related to data collection, processing and visualization, as well as machine learning and deep learning.

If you have an idea for an interesting topic and would like to be a speaker at our event, please complete the submission form. We are collecting applications until 17th of April 2024 (this deadline may be extended further).

FAQ

1. What determines the form of my speech - stationary, online live or VoD?

The selection of the format is ultimately decided by the Programme Council when setting the Agenda, respecting, of course, the speaker's preferences indicated in the Call for Papers form. However, we cannot guarantee the possibility of appearing in the format indicated in the form, because we are forced to take into account other factors influencing this decision, such as, for example, assigning the presentation to the path, time constraints and others.

2. What is the preferred speech format?

The speeches are held in 3 formats - stationary, online live and VoD. Stationary and online are conducted live. VoD are pre-prepared recordings made available on the official platform of the event for its participants.

This hybrid event format was developed by us based on numerous conferences we organized. Our experience shows that all 3 formats are very popular, and participants particularly appreciate VoD presentations, which they can watch at any time convenient for them.

3. Are there preferred paths?

There is no such thing as a "preferred path". We are looking for speakers and interesting topics for each track :)

4. Will my topic fit into the theme of the conference?

The thematic range of our conferences is always very wide. The speeches are divided into individual thematic paths and we are looking for appropriate topics for them. If the presentation fits into the theme of the path, it fits into the theme of the entire conference.

For a full list of suggested paths, please visit: https://ml.dssconf.pl/cfp

5. Is there a chance to fill out the Call for Papers form after the deadline?
If you have problems completing the form on time, please contact us. We will try to find a way out of the situation :)
6. I would like to change the topic of my speech after completing the application, is it possible?

Please complete the Call for Papers form again, adding in the comments that the old request is no longer valid. For minor changes, please contact us by email.

7. What are the conditions of sponsored talks?

If you are interested in sponsored lectures, please contact Aleksandra Prychitko, sponsors. Contact to Ola: aleksandra.prychitko@fundacjaap.org.pl

8. What character and level of advancement should the presentation have?

The most requested presentations are: case studies, presentations at intermediate or advanced level, presentations on trends or the future shape of data science, presentations of research results.

9. What is your preferred language?

The preferred language of the conference is English.

10. I have several topic suggestions, which should I submit?

We invite you to submit some topic suggestions. Then the Program Council will have a chance to get acquainted with all the proposals and choose the paths and other applications most suited to the context. When submitting another proposal, we suggest entering "provided in the previous submission" in the fields with the speaker's data.

In special cases, more than one topic may be presented at the conference.

11. May I suggest a topic I presented at another conference?

We are most interested in new topics that have not been published before. If there is no such possibility and only a topic that has already been presented is available, then if this event was addressed to a different target group than ours, it is possible.

12. What is the speaking time?
In-person and online live presentations last 35-40 minutes. We inform about the exact time for the speech after the Agenda is set, when accepting the application.

Pre-recorded lectures, made available in VoD format, are also recommended to be scheduled for about 30 minutes. However, we allow for the possibility of shortening or extending the time of such a lecture, so that it is better suited to the topic of the speech and allows for its best and comprehensive presentation.
13. The speech lasts 35-40 minutes, can you go on to answer questions from participants after this time?
The speech lasts about 35-40 minutes and this time should include the presentation and answers to participants' questions. There is a 5-minute break after the performance. We try to make sure that the presentations do not drag out. In the case of more questions, after the lecture, we encourage you to continue the discussion, but outside the presentation room.
14. Do we provide a ticket for the person accompanying the speaker?
We approach each case individually.
15. Are live performances recorded?
All online live events are recorded. In the case of stationary speeches, we record only in selected rooms (tracks).
16. Will it be possible to interact with participants during the live online session?

Absolutely! Participants can ask questions in the chat and the session facilitator will read them out at the end of the speech. Please note that we have a time limit and we cannot go beyond the 35-40 minutes allotted for a speech.

17. Can participants ask questions to the VoD lecture?

Yes, attendees can ask questions in the comments section under the recording of each talk.

18. I need help preparing a recording of a VoD lecture, do you provide such support?

We arrange an online meeting with speakers who need support in preparing a recording of their lecture (usually using the Zoom platform). During the meeting, the speaker shares the screen and presents the topic, and we record the presented screen and the image from the camera. Then the recording is edited by our team and made available to the participants.

19. What will the online live presentation look like from the speaker's perspective?

From the speaker's perspective, an online live presentation is just an ordinary online meeting, which we usually conduct using the Microsoft Teams platform. The image from the meeting is then transferred to the official live stream made available to participants on the event platform.

20. Can I be reimbursed for travel and accommodation?

In case of interest, we provide accommodation in a hotel booked by us and transportation within Poland by TLK or IC category train in second class. If another form of transportation is used (e.g., higher class or category of train, car ride, etc.), the maximum possible reimbursement will be determined based on the price of regular fare on the selected route, by IC category train in second class. We will send you details of this process by e-mail after the Call for Papers.

21. Can I get a refund for my flight from abroad?

In this edition we are unable to finance flights abroad.

22. For how many nights do we provide accommodation?

Accommodation is provided for one night, before or after the conference, according to the speaker's preferences.
